DIY Kitchen Remodel

Our lovely little 1955 rancher needed some kitchen love, and I gave it plenty in the form of blood, sweat and tears! This is my largest project so far, so I'm excited to be finished and learned a ton. Most of the kitchen is IKEA, because I love IKEA and it was the easiest option to install myself, and gave flexibility to create my own take on 'Japandi' style. I went with real ash butcher block counters, to compliment the cabinets of the same wood effect.

Before though? Here's what it looked like when we bought the place:

It was dark and nasty. I called it the "2002 hotel special". The flow was bad, the juju was worse, and we needed to connect it to the rest of the remodeled house. From demolition to finish, it was about 2 months of work!

Demolition is definitely my favorite part.
I patched up all the drywall, and installed a new subfloor. We had plumbing and electrical pros come and update the outlets and pipes.

I proceeded to skim coat the walls, painted and textured them to match the rest of the house. I also managed to texture myself quite a bit on that task.

The rest of the flooring was installed, then cabinets and all new appliances (which were really tricky to source in this pandemic). Boom! I saved almost $20,000 dollars by doing it myself, no big deal. What's the next project? I have a list to tackle still, stay tuned haha.
