Landscaping Zen

I decided to DIY landscape the neglected part of our backyard. It's an area that was gated off for some reason, and I saw it as a bonus nook on top of our already generously sized back yard.

It was real nasty back there though, thanks to years of neglect and some workers had thrown trash and cleaned out their paint equipment into the dead shrubbery, not cool. So, I decided to gut everything and make my own little zen rock garden. No maintenance, no fuss, drought friendly.

We started with cleanup, ripped out dead bushes and debris.

I used a farm jack to wrastle all them roots outta there!

My main foe, we fought to the death: Tree Stump Monster. The hardest part of this project!

Finally got to a blank canvas, felt good. Soil was lightly hand-tilled.

Staked down some hardcore weed barrier, and got the pavers lined up and based right.

Ah, here we are finally, around 2 weeks after starting this project. I emptied the last bag of gravel, and also "rescued" the nicest rocks around the property and arranged them in their new home. I had painted the cinder blocks that I found dumped here in the beginning, and stacked them as planters for a pop of color against the newly painted black fence.

I still have some plans for lighting, and a few other decorations, but the biggest work is done! All that rock gravel took around 6 trips to the hardware store, I hauled 9 bags a trip (I only have a car). I've been getting my workout in at least!
