First Design Job: 1996
My dear mother is a life-long career graphic designer. She went to school for it, and has worked for some fancy firms out here in the bay area. Because of her, I grew up hanging around the design industry without even knowing it really.
I was just some snot-nosed kid running around Saatchi & Saatchi, big design firms with huge prints on the walls of ads for companies like Sony and Gap... It's one of those things that just totally makes sense in hindsight. Somehow I found my way back to it, in my own way. I do remember the work those folks were in the middle of, a creative job in a corporate world. Sigh... I know it very well now.
Anyways, I have fond memories of doing design and graphic work with my mom even way back then. Here's some cold proof for ya.
Way back in 1996, my 13 year old self undertook my first corporate design job for a little company called Levi's. Well, I did the illustration work, my mother handled the graphic design side of things. Pure 90's aesthetic, drawn by a kid for his own demographic target. Gotta get those red tab jeans! Ah, do I miss the 90's.
Thanks for sparking the fire from the beginning, mom. Love ya.
